Critical Missions

We go boldly where the problems are complex and the human impact, profound.

Whether solving an urgent need or advancing a large cultural shift, our creative energy, operational capacity, and resources take on the world’s toughest problems.

To think and act boldly is part state of mind—empathy, compassion, and optimism: the firm belief that even the hardest problems can be made right; and part action—research, resource enlistment, and finely-tuned planning and execution. We take on missions that need both, and we do so free of political affiliation or advocacy. The only narrative you’ll see running through our missions is the call for our distinct set of skills and a desire to help people in need – whether just a few or countless.

The Steve Menzies Global Foundation is distinctive in its approach in that we’re not bound by any singular cause, but by the coalescence of Critical Missions we’re engaged in at any given time. We commit the full force of our expertise, resources, and passion to Critical Missions that fit the criteria we’ve set:

  • Impact—the Mission has a decisive, crucial impact on people and society, and the solution is permanent because it addresses the problem’s root cause.
  • Results—the Mission can be measured uniformly and conclusively, whether it results in success or failure.
  • Need—the Mission takes on problems that have been neglected or abandoned, or are perceived by others as too difficult to address.

Our Critical Missions range from rapid response, where the needs are immediate and others will be too slow or will be unable to respond, to long-term, which can take generations to reach their ultimate goal. Both require patience and the ability to learn, innovate, and change course when necessary. Gratification may not be instant, but we achieve it through contributing knowledge, accumulating even incremental successes, and knowing we’re making a real difference.

Active Complex Missions

Citizen Diplomacy Logistical Support and Advisory

The Foundation provides financial, operational, and technical advisory support for Americans unfairly held captive or trapped abroad and often victimized or exploited by a foreign government or organization. The Foundation will consider cases upon receipt of a bona fide request from either the family or the US Government, or both. The Foundation typically considers engagements which are more operationally complex.

Professional Training and Partnered Infrastructure

At excellent, well-established colleges and universities in the United States, tuition increases cannot keep pace with fixed costs. Meanwhile, elsewhere on the globe, developing nations struggle to create effective college programs equal to their nations' needs. The Foundation links these challenges into a mutually compatible solution by arranging for U.S. colleges to export their curricula so that students in developing countries can receive a degree from the American institution. In return, American colleges keep up with the rising fixed costs that outpace increases in on-campus enrollment.

The Advancement of Critical Thinking

Critical thinking can be learned and, when mastered, improves the lives of individuals and, ultimately, society. But critical thinking skills are no longer taught and little now counteracts the darker forces of technology and social media. See how the Foundation is rising to this monumental challenge.
